The Blues skipper is struggling with a hamstring injury and will have a late fitness test ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge.
Blues boss Steve Bruce is already without David Dunn (hamstring), Jamie Clapham (hamstring), Matty Upson (ankle) and Christophe Dugarry (suspended).
Add to this Aliou Cisse, who is away on international duty, Mikael Forssell not being available and Stan Lazaridis who is doubtful with a groin strain and the Blues boss is quite clearly down to the bare bones.
