The Blues midfielder, who has made only 7 appearances for Blues first team so far this season (six of those as a sub), was offered to Gradi by an agent.
The Crewe boss however declined the offer because he could not, it seems, guarantee the England Under 20 international a place in his first team.
“I had an agent friend on to me about Darren Carter, saying he’d like the boy to come here on loan," Gradi told The Sentinel Newspaper on Monday.
“While I would like him to come here, there is no point. What am I going to do? Leave out Justin Cochrane or Neil Sorvel?”
