Grainger moved to Highfield Road on an initial one month loan deal last month and is due to play his fifth game for the Sky Blues in the local derby game against West Brom at The Hawthorns this weekend. "For somebody who has been out so long it is not easy to slip back into that confidence and the quality, the passing and the tackling. I think he has been excellent. He’s one of those players you can trust when you put them in a position and you know he won’t make a silly error. He does his job and it’s great for a manager to have players like that. "I would love to extend his loan. I’ve spoken to Steve Bruce and I know they have got one or two injuries at the moment. We’ll have to see but I would be really keen to do that." "It wasn’t so much of a groin strain that I was suffering from. It’s just that whenever you haven’t played for a while you get these little niggles. It’s actually gone to the other side now but it’s not going to stop me from playing. A bit of rest and bit of treatment will do me fine."
"He’s a good left back and his use of the ball is good although having spoken to him he’s still unhappy with the quality of his passing," the Coventry boss told his clubs official website.
Grainger, an integral part of the Blues squad that gained promotion to the Premiership two seasons ago, has not figured in Steve Bruces first team squad since last January having been sidelined for most of that time with various injuries.
He had only just returned to reserve team action before the loan deal at Highfield Road begun and is happy to be back in the thick of the action. Coventry have won their last three games and the G-Man says the place is buzzing and he is glad to be part of it.
"There’s now a chance to push up and get in that top six so why wouldn’t I want to be a part of it? Hopefully if we can all agree then who knows?" he told the Sky Blues official site.
"The fitness is almost there. I’d like to contribute a little bit more towards the games but that will come. I’ve not played for a year, I’m just delighted that Eric gave me a chance to come and play rather than playing in the Birmingham reserves.
