A statement regarding the matter has been released on the Blues official website, www.bcfc.com, which reads: "Birmingham City Football Club is keen to clarify the circumstances surrounding an incident involving Clinton Morrison on Monday evening.
The facts are that a car Clinton was travelling in was found to have drugs in it when it was stopped by police in a routine check.
Clinton, who is unable to drive, had accepted a lift in good faith from someone he didn't know.
Clinton is no way involved with drugs and realises accepting a lift from someone not known to him was the wrong thing to do and he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time."
The young Republic of Ireland international has endured a torrid 12 months since he signed for a then club record fee of £4.25 million from Crystal Palace.
A tally of only six goals in his debut season brought criticism from some quarters and he spoke out about his difficulty in settling into new surroundings away from his London home.
He hit the headlines following a post match bust up in the players lounge involving his mother and Fulham defender Rufus Brevett.
And a miserable season was rounded off when he was ruled out of the final matches after he dislocated his shoulder.
Following Monday's incident, Morrison was released on bail after questioning and has been told by police that he is unlikely to face charges.
