The Blues midfielder has already been hit with a three game ban for the dismissal for an off-the-ball incident where he was seen by the linesman to have kicked-out at Pompey midfielder Dario Silva who himself was shown a yellow card by match official Dermot Gallagher.
As a consequence Butt will be forced to sit-out the next three games against Scunthorpe, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Now Butt has been hit with a charge of "abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official" after he was seen to verbally repond to the assistant following his red card as he left the pitch.
A FA Disciplinary Commission will hear the case on Tuesday 27th September.
