Bruce praise for striker

John grabbed the headlines during Blues' pre-season tour of Malaysia when his glaring miss against Newcastle in the first game of the Asia Cup tournament was shown over-and-over again on tv's worldwide, but Bruce has been more than pleased with the form of the Trinidad and Tobago international striker during the close season.

“Stern has got great ability and he has come back flying this pre season, believe me,” Bruce says in the Sunday Mercury.

“He was the man who got us into the Premiership as he scored eight goals in 16 games when we won promotion.

“He scored a great goal against Walsall, which was his fourth of pre season, and he has certainly done everything he can to get into the starting 11 next week.”
