DJ has recently reverted back to his natural midfield role after a period being used as a right back and the Blues boss reckons the Northern Ireland international has been Blues best player so far this season.
"For me he has been by far and away our best player this season," said Bruce.
"He just gets on with his job. He's tough, he's competitive, he's got good qualities, he just never gives in.
"He's got all the ingredients that I look for in a player."
