Bruce praise for Cisse

The Senegal World Cup captain made his Blues debut in the 7-0 win at Tranmere on Wednesday night and although substituted after 51 minutes in order to protect a calf strain, Bruce liked what he saw of Cisse.

"He's going to be a significant signing for us," Bruce told the B'ham Evening Mail.

"He wants to be the defensive midfield player, which maybe this club hasn't had.

"He wants to organise those around him, he wants to take control. He has a physical presence about him and I still think we will see him get better.

"He's only just finished playing in the World Cup and we've been easing him in gently.

"And from what we saw last night, it's very promising for us. It's obvious why he has captained his country so many times." Cisse was the deep central midfielder in a 3-5-2 formation that Bruce looks set to go with at Arsenal when the Premiership starts.

"The players enjoyed the system we played, we looked very decent," he said.

"In pre-season we've had a little go at playing 3-5-2 to see what the players think and how they react.

"We always know we can play 4-4-2, this club has gone that way for years.

"If we do have to adapt the other way then it is not going to be something foreign to them."
