The 23-year-year-old Croatian international is expected to be sidelined for up to two months after breaking his leg after a tackle by Bowyer 49 minutes into the game between the two side's at White Hart Lane on Saturday which Spurs went on to win 2-1.
Modric will now be forced to sit out his countries forthcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Belarus on Saturday, 5th September and England next Wednesday at Wembley.
"It was not a ferocious tackle but it hurt awfully and I knew something was wrong the moment it happened," Modric told the Sun newspaper.
"It's like my whole world has crumbled because I'll be out for at least six weeks. I'm terribly sad.
"The worst thing is knowing that I'll be watching both my club and country from the sidelines for a while."
