Back in October, Blues boss Steve Bruce had confirmed an interest in the 25-year-old Austrian international defender, who played for Brann Bergen when Blues played them during their tour of Norway in the summer.
However, Scharner has confirmed that he is to sign for Wigan on a three-and-a-half-year deal when the transfer window opens in January.
Ironically, Paul Jewell's side visit St Andrew's for a Premier League fixture on 2nd January so Scharner could well be making his Premier League debut against Blues and not for them.
