Blues Bid For Smith - Reports

Last updated : 29 April 2004 By Brian Cartlidge

The two newspapers however differ on the bid Blues are reported to have offered for the England international forward. The Independent claims the bid is £7million whilst The Telegraph reports the bid to be around £5.75million, both of which would eclipse the £5.5million club record that Blues paid to Blackburn Rovers for David Dunn last summer.

Blues boss Steve Bruce is obviously a big admirer of Smith having admitted to making an enquiry into his availibility during the last transfer window only to be told that the striker was not for sale.

However, Smith himself has said recently that he will leave Elland Road should Leeds be relegated from the Premiership this season, news that is sure to have alerted a host of clubs both at home and abroad.

Todays reports, if they are justified of course, suggest that Blues are the first of those clubs interested to have made a serious move for the striker. Cue the inevitable Middlesbrough interest??

What a thought - Mikael Forssell and Alan Smith spearheading the Blues attack next season! The mind boggles.
