Purse has managed just two first team appearances for Steve Bruce's side this season and with Kenny Cunningham and Matthew Upson in such good form is finding it difficult to make even the managers chosen 16 for each game.
The centre-back has even fallen behind Olivier Tebily in the pecking order now with the Ivory Coast international able to play in various positions in the back-line or even in midfield should the need occur.
Purse's last appearance came in the 2-2 draw with Fulham at St. Andrew's this season when he partnered Upson for the one and only time and was sent-off for a much-publicised scuffle with Fulham striker Louis Boa Morte.
That red card saw Purse banned for three games and although he was available for selection for Blues last game at Bolton he failed once again to make the 16-man squad.
