Blues took a point from the Midlands derby in what was Rowett's first game in charge of the side since being named the new manager earlier this week.
"There's almost a relief they had the chance to put last week's result behind them, get a new message and a style of play," Rowett told Sky Sports after the 0-0 draw.
"They have worked very hard. It's a very, very good start. If they work together as a squad then we can certainly achieve something.
"I didn't expect us to come and keep a clean sheet at Molineux but I'd certainly have taken it. It's something to build on now.
"Maybe we had to ride our luck on one or two things. I was a little concerned as, when I was driving to the training ground this morning, I saw two magpies and one flew in front of my car so I was driving around for a little while hoping I'd see his mate."
