Blues' 4-2 defeat at Portman Road on Tuesday night means they have now gone eight games without a win in the Sky Bet Championship.
"Ipswich are a good side but they have not had to work hard for any of their goals," Rowett said after the match.
"Perhaps gifting them goals is a little harsh, but we defended poorly for all four goals.
"We showed incredible character, but we are not taking our chances and we are making it too easy for the opposition.
"We knew it would be a tough, scrappy match as Ipswich force you to make mistakes because of the pressure they put you under. But we have to defend better than that.
"We are having a bit of a sticky patch and it is a big disappointment. We have not won in eight league games and we have to make sure we stick together."
